Robert Gottliebsen has been on fire in recent columns

This year's McIlwraith Lecture will be delivered by Robert Gottliebsen. If you haven't read recent columns by him, you should. He's a beacon of commonsense on issues like The Voice, modern virtue signalling CEOs, the housing crisis, abuse of its powers by the Australian Tax Office, and of course business in general, including mining.

Gottliebsen is the right person to deliver this address. At 82 he's achieved a lot and still manages a column most days in The Australian. A former Walkley winner, and also Journalist of the Year, he was the original Chanticleer correspondent in the Australian Financial Review, as well as founding Business Review Weekly. He is also a co-founder of the Eureka Report.

He has a place in the Australian Media Hall of Fame and in 2018 was awarded a Lifetime achievement award by the Melbourne Press Club. He (belatedly in my view) received an order of Australia Medal in 2018 for services to journalism and educational governance.

His career has spanned 50 years, which gives him a better view of Mt Isa's 100 years than most people living today..

These are for people at secondary school, or in tertiary education. The McIlwraith Lecture is all about sharing inspiring stories of people who've made important contributions to our state. In this case it is in an industry that is completely vital, and has been systematically demonised. We need to get the truth to a younger generation.
