How do we fix the worst security situation since at least 1939?
Dear , I wasn't surprised that the Economic Reform Roundtable didn't involve any stress testing of the Australian economy - our economy relies on a Goldilocks world where good times just keep rolling and as a result we can indulge ourselves.
A stress test would have had to admit that in the woods of the real world there are lots of bears. The behaviour of foreign actors like Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, Hamas, the Houthis, Kim Jung-Un, and many lesser-knowns shows the world is only a superficially safe place.
Our next function will be a lunch with Peter Jennings AO PMS who will go deep into the woods and give Goldilocks some advice. It is Wednesday September 17 at Tattersall's. His topic is "Australia's security outlook and what to do about it". To book click here.
Peter is one of Australia's pre-eminent defence analysts. For 10 years until 2022 he ran the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, a government-funded think tank dealing with defence and foreign affairs.
Before that he worked in senior roles in the public service including as Deputy Secretary for Strategy in the Defence Department, Chief of Staff to the Minister for Defence and Senior Advisor for Strategic Policy to the Prime Minister. Peter's writing is in The Australian most weeks at least once. You can read his latest here.
