Climate Hustle - with Marc Morano
|
 |
Dear , On Saturday July 15 the Australian Institute for Progress will be hosting a showing of Climate Hustle, a new documentary on climate change. Marc Morano, who narrates the film, will be present for a Q&A afterwards, along with Craig Rucker, one of the Executive Producers. It is a production of CFact. Early interest has been high with 25% of seats already booked, most to non-AIP members. So if you're interested, book now. Climate Hustle takes a sceptical view of climate change, and a number of our members have asked me whether the AIP is a "climate denying" organisation. We don't have an official view on climate change, although I can say from my point of view that climate changes all the time, and all other things being equal, man's emissions of CO2 are playing a role in that. Apart from that the science of climate change is really in its infancy, and what we thought we knew, even 10 years ago, is being shown by observation not to be correct. For example, while a celebrity scientist like Brian Cox can tell the ABC Q&A audience that there is no evidence of "the pause" - the claim that there has been no increase in temperature since around 1998 - the most recent peer-reviewed research, this time from Ben Santer, one of the climate establishment, is that not only is there a pause, but that the models the IPCC relies on have errors in their assumptions which lead them to forecast temperature increases which are too high! You won't hear about this from the mainstream media, which is why it is important that movies like this are seen as widely as possible. It will contain mistakes and errors, but that is the way that knowledge increases. (I've seen the trailer for Al Gore's An Inconvenient Sequel, his new climate change movie, and it has some howlers in it, and let's hope they are corrected by well-briefed journalists). Details When: Saturday July 15, 2017; 4:30 sharp until 6:30 pm Where: New Farm Cinemas, 701 Brunswick Street, FORTITUDE VALLEY Q 4005 Cost: $20 general admission; $15 AIP members; $10 students To book click here.
