Coal, oil and gas - pessimists and optimists

Our most important policy launch this year

Dear ,

Coal, oil and gas not only underpin Queensland's economy and standard of living, but without them as fertilisers and plastics, modern life would be unimaginable. That's why we commissioned Gene Tunny of Adept Economics to do a research report on what radical Green/Left policies to close our fossil fuel industries would do to Queensland.

The result is “The cost to Queensland of closing coal, oil and gas industries”.

We're launching that report at the Brisbane Club on July 26, 2022 at 12:00 PM with lunch and a panel discussion featuring two of the giants of the energy industry in our state - Mick McCormack, Chair of Central Petroleum and former Executive Director of energy infrastructure giant APA; and Nick Jorss, Executive Chair of Queensland's newest metallurgical coal exporter Bowen Coking Coal, and the man behind the success of Stanmore.

This event will be an important policy event for us, and an opportunity to influence policy in the mining industry. On top of the shortages, caused by the withdrawal of investment funds under pressure from ESG enforcers and the Ukraine conflict, and consequent price rises, the state government has decided to cash in and massively increase royalties.

The smart way to increase mining royalties is to mine more minerals. But that would take too long for a government seemingly allergic to mine approvals.

Our guest speakers have a reputation for straight-shooting and straight-talking, and this is one function I'm looking forward to moderating. Hope to see you there.

Regards,

GRAHAM YOUNG
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
