Peterson and MacFarlane
Dear , I hope I’m not imposing on you, and if you could only do 50% of what I’m about to ask, that would be enough, but there are two things I hope you can do for me before this Friday. One is to book for the launch of Ian MacFarlane’s Ten Remarkable Australians, to be launched by Des Houghton. The event is this Friday. And the other is to book for the screening of The Rise of Jordan Peterson. The screening isn’t until Monday December 9, but if we don’t sell 30 more tickets by this Friday, the booking platform we are using, FanForce, will cancel the screening and refund all monies. And to say thank you for booking for the MacFarlane book launch, if you enter the code “10RA” at the top of the booking form you will get $5 off your ticket. So if you are a member of the AIP you will only pay $15 for the evening, which includes wine and cheese beforehand. It’s the best value in Brisbane. I’m really keen to reach the target for Jordan Peterson. I know most of you don’t make booking decisions until pretty close to the last moment, but if you could make an exception this time it would be great. Peterson is a phenomenon, and he looks at issues from a different point of view, breaking the debating straight-jacket we often find ourselves in. The more people are exposed to him the better. He’s so effective that the regressive side of the debate targets him personally, accusing him of being a white supremacist and an extremist, and a radicaliser of angry young white men. One of the most effective counters to these tactics is to round out the person of Peterson so that the caricaturing of him and personal vilification can't be maintained. This movie looks at Peterson the man, so it does just that.
To book go to https://fan-force.com/screenings/the-rise-of-jordan-peterson-new-farm-cinema/. The screening will be at 4:00 pm on Monday December 9, but only if you can help us make the target. Ten Remarkable Australians will be launched this Friday at 6:00 pm for 6:30 pm at the AIP lecture theatre, 50 Logan Road, Woolloongabba. To book go to https://remarkable10.eventbrite.com.au and enter 10RA in the field for the code. Are we too quick as a nation to forget those who shaped us? This book is a collection of short biographies of ten remarkable Australians who were well-known at one stage in the 20th Century, but have since been forgotten. Ian MacFarlane draws lessons for the present from their lives, as well as providing greater understanding of who we are as a nation. Endorsements come from across the political spectrum: “An outstanding achievement: the forgotten heroes of Australia’s great era of adventure and creativity brought to life.” - Lindsay Tanner “Ian Macfarlane has brought to life ten remarkably different, highly influential, and above all else, talented Australians. Most importantly, the book is so easy to read…because each character is so refreshingly different.” - John Howard “I love the prose! Well written, entertaining, insightful, evocative.” - Peter FitzSimons “This is a journey into Australia’s forgotten past, a series of compelling portraits of astonishing figures whose lives deserve to be recalled and celebrated.” - Paul Kelly And I know I said 50% would be enough, but I’d love it if you could make it 100% and I see you at both events.
