If you're lucky like me, you live in Queensland, where masking is mandatory in some circumstances, but we are not imprisoned in our own homes, (and I notice restrictions being progressively ignored by an increasingly less-obedient citizenry). If you're unlucky, you live in NSW, which even though it has had far fewer deaths than Victoria, is behaving as though it has as many as Yemen, the world "leader" in fatality, and home detention is mostly mandatory.

Even though we have vaccines, and those most at risk have had every chance to be protected by them, that doesn't seem to matter. Indeed, with the latest advice from the CDC in the USA that even those vaccinated should wear masks indoors, are vaccines going to end the restrictions?

Gigi's talk-radio show on ABC Radio National has commenced its fifth season, with the first episode all about lockdown policy: https://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/the-economists/title/13406906  By invitation earlier this week she also gave the opening keynote speech at the annual Australian Conference of Economists, with staunch Covistance member (not to mention term-coiner) and brother-in-arms Paul Frijters giving another invited keynote in that same conference.  Even her own university has begun to feature her work on covid policy.  

Gigi has also co-authored with Paul Frijters and Michael Baker a book called The Great Covid Panic.  They are aiming to have the book on shelves within two to three months – in time for the Christmas season – with book launch events to come in October/November.  Further details to follow in future missives.
