Measuring all the cost to human life
Dear , Next Monday we're going to run the first seminar in an online series looking at COVID-19, its causes, consequences and cures and we've had a real coup in persuading Professor Paul Frijters of the London School of Economics to be our first lecturer.
The lecture will start at 6:00 pm EST, Professor Frijters will speak for around 45 minutes, and then there will be questions from the audience for another half hour.
Paul is a noted economist whose specialty is Well-being Economics, and he is amongst the top 1% of economists for citations and effect. He'll be looking at the other side of the ledger – the damage done to the health of our citizens by the measures we've taken to save people from COVID.
I don't know why we didn't do something like this before, but it took COVID-19 to force us to change our mindset. By using Zoom we can bring experts from all over the world right into the living rooms of our members, and give you all a chance to ask them questions. We can also make it available to you wherever you are. To be part of this first-ever online AIP seminar please click here to book. We are charging members a minimal cost of $5 to defray costs. That will entitle you to be online via Zoom, and also submit a question. We're also looking for sponsors if you, or someone you know, is interested.
Paul is an advisor to the UK government and will combine his expertise in economics with his experience of the United Kingdom's disastrous handling of the pandemic. He calculates that 10 million lives may have already been lost because of the damage done to the economies of the world.
Stay tuned for announcements for the next instalments in the series. We will be exploring issues such as the economic consequences, why the models were so wrong, how to improve decision-making, and how to reboot the economy, amongst others.
