Dr Lars Schernikau has seen the future of electricity generation

The government has been hiding how hard the energy transition will be

Dear ,

With less than 4 months until the next election I understand your priorities are to win well, which I think you will do.

And then you will need to solve a myriad of problems outside of crime, hospitals, cost of living and housing. Energy will be the most pressing.

The ALP hasn't just lied about Callide C, they've lied about the whole energy transition, and they've put the weights on good public servants not to speak out about the technical problems we face.

You can already see some of the fantasies unwinding in other states. New South Wales is paying to keep Eraring running, because you just can't replace baseload power with wind and solar. Victoria is changing its tune on gas, because batteries are unlikely to ever provide enough back-up for wind and solar, so you need fossil fuel that you can turn on quickly.

If you are able, I think it would be worth your while to spend a couple of hours next Wednesday listening to someone who can tell you about the future.

As a German energy economist, Lars Schernikau has lived and worked in a country further down the transition path than Australia, and he knows what our future potentially looks like. He is speaking at a function we are organising at Tattersall's Club next Wednesday. To book, click here. (But please do this soon as we are selling-out quickly).

While he is going to address the issue of how coal has played out in the German energy transition Lars has wide experience in electricity generation, including managing a wind farm.

His CV is extremely impressive.

Dr. Lars Schernikau - With two decades immersed in the commodity industry, his journey began at The Boston Consulting Group (USA and Germany) shaping his deep understanding of global markets. He also managed a Germany based wind farm.

Lars studied Finance at New York University, received his MBA from INSEAD in France, and earned his doctoral degree in Energy Economics at the Technical University Berlin, Germany.

Lars now directs his expertise towards further enhancing HMS' global commodity operations and driving energy and commodity marketing across Asia, Africa, the Americas, Europe and the Indian subcontinent. HMS Bergbau AG (www.hms-ag.com) has been a key player in coal, ore, and cementitious product markets since 1995 and develops and operates various logistics and mining assets.

Beyond the commodity business, Lars is a renowned energy economist and keynote speaker at global energy and commodity forums. With published books, scientific research, and press articles on energy policy and raw materials, his insights are held in high esteem. His latest book, "The Unpopular Truth… about Electricity and the Future of Energy," discusses the "energy transition" and how to meet global growing energy demand from an energy economics point of view.
