Follow-up on launch of Observations of the Pell Trial

Dear ,

I don't normally follow-up on our functions, but given the dramatic health scare that we had I thought you might like to know that the lady who collapsed is fine.

I've been in touch with her, and as far as you can tell from an email conversation, she seems back to normal.

She'd been at a seminar all day, and it seems this might have just been a reaction to abnormal wear and tear.

I'd like to express thanks to Drs Tim and Marian Florin who immediately rushed to her aid, and also Denver Beanland, who cushioned her fall to the ground.

I'd also like to thank James Power, who did an excellent job introducing Fr Brennan, and of course to Fr Brennan himself for an excellent presentation and some very honest answers, including one where we had to shut the broadcast down!

If you want to relive the evening, or educate some of your friends on the facts of this matter, you can watch it at our Facebook page. The first part is at https://fb.watch/kLWuoqAhcL/ and the second at https://fb.watch/kLWwcEkFqE/.

And of course you can always buy a copy of the book if you didn't get one on the night by clicking here.

I also strongly suggest you look at the website for the St John Henry Newman College which James is establishing in Brisbane to teach classical education - that is education concerned with the true, the beautiful and the good, rather than just training for a good job.

It's always seemed bizarre to me that in a world requiring flexibility we fail to impart the tools that will allow students to be flexible throughout their lives.

We have another two functions coming-up, and notices will be going out soon.

One is the launch of "Covid-19 and Australian Federalism", the first bound book that we have published ourselves ever. This will be on June 12, at 7:00 pm in our offices. This looks at the natural experiment in federalism provided by the differing state approaches to COVID-19. Gene Tunny will do the honours.

The second is the launch of Prosperity and Dignity: The Future of Liberal Australia edited by AIP
member David Stevens. That will be on June 23 at lunch. Venue to be advised. Former senator Nick Minchin, another AIP member, will launch the book.

Regards,
GRAHAM YOUNG
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
