Go Nuclear or Go Extinct: Reminder - still room for a few more

We can squeeze you in if you're quick

Dear ,

We've had a very good response to our lunch with Zion Lights and Stephen Wilson, but we can squeeze just a few more in, as long as you get to me before I have to notify the Brisbane Club of final numbers at 10:00 am tomorrow morning.

You may have noticed that the state government has released a $62 Billion "plan" for Queensland to be powered 70% by renewables by 2032, in time for the Olympic Games.

This "plan" relies on some heroic assumptions, such as the construction of two massive pumped-hydro schemes by a government which has only built one dam in the last 30 something years, and that one, Paradise Dam, is currently empty and being repaired.

It also requires a huge extension to the network, and the construction of a lot of gas-fired power stations for when the wind and sun are in short supply.

For the same amount of money spent on nuclear we'd have a surplus of energy to export or drive new industries because the generators wouldn't need new networks, they wouldn't need backup, and they wouldn't need storage.

The Labor plan, without nuclear, represents a huge challenge to our standard of living. So building momentum to support the introduction of nuclear power is critical.

The function is October 5, at 12:00 for 12:30 pm. Cost is $135 for Australian Institute of Progress members, or $165 for non-members. We also have a price for tables of 10 ($1,350) and students ($120). To book, click here.

Regards,

GRAHAM YOUNG
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
