Has Australia's new National Defence Strategy left us swinging in the wind?

A practical view of Australia's defence with academic refinement

We still have a few spots left for our review of the National Defence Strategy with Major General (Rtd) Adam Findlay AO next Tuesday, June 18 in the Brisbane Club for lunch. Adam is currently a professor at Griffith University, which recognises his academic skills - his PhD was on "Preventing Strategic Defeat A Reassessment of the First Anglo-Afghan War 1839-42" - but he has extensive combat experience from modern war, including the last Afghan War.

Adam is well-placed to explain what Australia has, and what it needs.

Hi CV includes:

  • Founding Director of the Griffith University Defence Network
  • Served in major military campaigns in East Timor, Iraq and Afghanistan, and extensively throughout Southeast Asia and the Southwest Pacific
  • Special Operations Commander for Australia (2017-2020) responsible for all high-readiness special operations, where he also initiated significant organisational transformation and cultural reform.
  • From 2016 to 2017 he commanded all coalition special forces in Iraq, culminating in the liberation of Mosul in 2017.
  • He was appointed as an Officer (AO) of the Order of Australia for his command of Special Operations Command and the 7th Combat Brigade. He has also been awarded the French Medal of Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur for his contribution to the relationship between French and Australian Special Forces, and was awarded Officer of the US Legion of Merit for exceptionally meritorious command of the Special Operations Joint Task Force - Iraq.

Tickets range between $100 for pensioners and students, to $165 general admission (AIP members are $135). To book, click here.

Hope to see you there.

Regards,

GRAHAM YOUNG
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
