Following in the path of McIlwraith

We're proud to have the Hon David Crisafulli MP, Premier of Queensland, as our lecturer at this year's McIlwraith Lecture.

Sir Thomas McIlwraith was premier of Queensland three times between 1879 and 1893. He was a free trader and a passionate advocate for Queensland's development, so it's appropriate we have Queensland's LNP premier as our speaker.

The lecture will be held on Wednesday September 30 at 5:30 pm for 6:00 pm at the Amora Hotel, 200 Creek Street, Brisbane. Tickets are $195 for the general public, $175 for AIP members and $130 for students and concessions. They cover a two-course meal with drinks. To book click here.

McIlwraith was a premier of strong convictions who thought globally at the same time as he acted locally. If he were sitting here today, 126 years after his death, watching the Premier on TV on his American trade mission, he'd strongly approve.

It's about Queensland not waiting for the rest: looking for foreign capital to develop and process our critical minerals, talking to the Californians about ag-tech and partnerships, and pursuing opportunities in energy technologies, advanced manufacturing and AI. Even seeking meetings directly with the Trump administration.

In his turn McIlwraith worked to bring the world to Queensland too: foreign capital to build railways, foreign immigrants to build communities and cities, and both to generate wealth. He didn't wait for other states, or his colonial masters.
