Manus Days: why you need to come to the launch

Real life evidence on conditions in the Manus Island detention centre

Manus_Days

Dear ,

It's important to understand refugee policy. Our most recent polling shows it is a strong issue with significant numbers of voters - for and against. One side of the argument sees secure borders as an indispensable aspect of nationhood. The other side supports compassionate treatment of all refugees - legal or illegal

That's why the Manus Days book launch tomorrow is so important (to book click here).

How compassionate is our refugee policy? Key to that question is who makes up our illegal refugee population, and what are conditions really like in the detention centres?

I used to be a member of Amnesty International, but I resigned because I came to the conclusion they were interested in politics more than human rights and would bend the truth to achieve political ends.

When I listen to a lot of refugee advocates I also often feel they are more interested in politics than truth, but with the exception of a report by Chris Kenny from the Australian into conditions on Naru, I have nothing much to go on from the other side of the story.

The AIP believes in evidence-based policy, which is why this book launch is so important. Michael Coates has first hand experience of the people and conditions in the Manus Island Regional Processing Centre, and no reason to lie about them.

If you believe in evidence-based policy, and understand how important refugee policy is in our political debate, then you need to come to this book launch and hear for yourself from an impartial eye-witness.

On top of that you'll have an opportunity to meet legendary South Pacific correspondent Sean Dorney who will launch the book.

Cost is $10 for AIP members, $20 for non-members and includes the first drink. To book, click here.

When: March 22 (tomorrow) at 6:00 for 6:30 pm
Where: Alliance Hotel, 320 Boundary Street SPRING HILL Q 4000
Cost: $10 for AIP members, $20 for non-members (includes first drink).

If you know someone who is interested in this issue, bring them along too, no matter whether they are a secure borders, or a maximum compassion advocate. We're not taking sides here.
