Nigel Biggar: Colonialism - Australia's Unfinished Business

Nigel Biggar in person

Dear ,

It's just over one year since The Voice referendum, and it is obvious that it was just the most recent battle in relitigating the settlement of Australia by Europeans, not the final settlement.

Rather than settling the matter, the Voice result just showed more clearly where the divisions lie. The No campaign didn't read the result as an end to the argument, but a measure of how big their task is, and they went right back to work.

That's one reason I'd urge you to come and hear Professor Nigel Biggar speak at lunch in Brisbane on October 31. (To book click here). We need to think clearly about what happened in that colonial period and how it should be treated in the present.

Professor Biggar is the author of Colonialism, a Moral Reckoning, Emeritus Regius Professor of Moral Theology at Oxford, Chair of the Board of Trustees of the Free Speech Union, an Anglican priest, and known to some of us already as he spoke via Zoom at our inaugural Emancipation Day breakfast.

We've only just found out that he is available for this function, so please excuse the late notice, and don't delay booking.

The function will be at the Queensland Club, where AIP director Tom O'Donnell has used his membership to secure us a room and meal. There is very limited parking at the Queensland Club on the day and standards (dress standards) apply.

The details are:
