53 student scholarships! Thanks for your support.

We had an outstanding result from our call for student scholarships with money for a total of 53 places donated so I'm closing the scholarship program now. If you know of any student who might benefit from one of these scholarships, please let me know.

And of course please don't stop at nominating students - ask your friends and colleagues to come. Our guest speaker Robert Gottliebsen will deliver a riveting speech - he always does - and the story of Mt Isa will enthral you. It might look like an irresistible force today, but there were many points where it staggered.

Sometimes it was rescued by financiers, other times by the vision of executives, and yet other times by advances in technology. While mining is defined as a primary industry, it has a lot more in common with many tertiary industries than it does with most other primary industries. And it is an industry where Australia has had a huge competitive advantage.

It can also maintain our standards of living far into the future, as long as it is allowed to, and to this end Robert will also talk about the future of the North West Minerals Province..
