Compare and contrast our paper with theirsDear , What great timing. Professor Tim Florin’s paper “What do global data visualisations tell us about the performance of low-carbon electricity generation?” is launching next Monday. That will be within a month of the launch of the Energy Institute’s 2026 Statistical Review of World Energy giving you an opportunity to compare and contrast ours with one of the industry standards. Both papers deal directly with decarbonisation efforts, but Tim’s paper strips away the rhetoric and asks a straightforward question: what does the global evidence actually tell us about the performance of low-carbon electricity? The launch will be on Monday, July 20 at 6:00 for 6:30 pm in the offices of HopgoodGanim, Level 10, 360 Queen Street, Brisbane. There will be drinks and finger food to start, and tickets are $40 general admission, $30 for members and $20 for concessions. To book, click here. If you want to study up you can download the Energy Institute’s paper from here. We will have hard copy versions of Professor Florin’s paper for everyone at the launch. And without wanting to preempt Tim’s presentation, you might also want to have a look at this review of the Review by Robert Lyman, posted to Friends of Science. While the data in the Energy Institute’s report is good, the authors put heavy spin on it in their executive summary. If energy is your thing (and there is a straight line relationship between civilisation and energy consumption so there is every reason it should be) then make sure you come Monday.
