A reminder and some messages from our friends
Dear , If you haven't booked yet, firstly a reminder that there are now only two weeks and two days before our lunch with Peter Jennings AO, Wednesday 17 at Tattersall’s. Peter is the former head of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute, which is Australia’s foremost defence policy institute. Not surprisingly the institute is under attack from the Albanese government, particularly for its views about China, and you can read about some of the specifics here and here in articles from The Australian. It’s likely that the 10 years when Peter was its head will be regarded as its pinnacle of influence and relevance as the government goes about dismantling anything which challenges its world view. To book for the lunch please click here. Classical Education I also want to let you know about a couple of functions by some of our friends. The Classical Schooling movement is gathering steam in Australia with schools like St John Henry Newman College, backed by one of our friends James Power, springing-up in Brisbane. One of the leading lights in the classical school movement is Sarah Flynn whose Logos Australis is holding a classical education conference in Brisbane this coming weekend. There is teacher training on the Friday and a symposium on Saturday at the University of Queensland. Her presenters are: - Joelle Hodge, President of Classical Education Press who will address “Logic and the Art of Argument”
- Brian Williams, Dean of Templeton Honors College on “Great Books and Dante”
- Elisabeth Sullivan, Executive Director, Institute of Catholic Liberal Education – “Training Classical Teachers”
- Peter Crawford, Academic Dean, Institute of Catholic Liberal Education – “Turning Schools Classical”
Cost is $150 for Saturday only, or $330 for two days, with concessions available. To book or find out more, click here. CPAC And lastly, CPAC is being held in Brisbane this year. In case you haven’t heard of CPAC its letters stand for Conservative Political Action Conference. It started in the US when Ronald Reagan was president and is the major annual gathering point for centre right activists and politicians in the USA. Andrew Cooper brought it to Australia in 2019, and the Labor Party attempted to have it shut down with former senator Kristina Kenneally labelling it a “festival of hate” while then shadow attorney-general Mark Dreyfus pressured the government causing it to issue Andrew with a notice under the Foreign Influence Transparency Scheme. But CPAC survived and is to be held in Brisbane this year. To find out more go to their online agenda. International speakers include former British PM Liz Truss, Corey DeAngelis, Dan Wooton and Jack Posobiec, while local speakers include Jacinta Nampijinpa Price, Matt Canavan, Sall Grover and Ian Plimer. Date is the weekend of September 20 and 21. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here. If you use the code “AIP20” you will receive 20% off all tickets. Prices range from $119 for a daily ticket to $7,000 for the “Platinum Experience”. Look forward to seeing you at the Jenning’s function, and maybe at one of the others.
