Adi Paterson and Stephen Wilson on what nuclear can do for you
Dear ,
How many times did you hear in the last election campaign that electricity would be $250 cheaper under a Labor government? Since then, Queensland electricity prices are up an average of $730. How long until Chris Bowen claims the promise was really that prices would be $250 cheaper than under the Liberals, so if Labor weren’t the government, prices would actually be $980 higher now? This nonsense has got to stop. Which is one of the reasons we are pushing for a nuclear component in our electricity generation and bringing Adi Paterson to Brisbane for lunch. If you haven’t booked yet, don’t delay. Details are: Date: Tuesday March 25 at 12:00 for 12:30 pm. Venue: The Brisbane Club, 241 Adelaide Street, Brisbane Tickets: General Admission $165, AIP members $135, Pensioners and Students $100. Tables of 10 $1,350. (All tickets include a two-course meal and drinks) Bookings: RSVP Wednesday March 19, 2025. To book: click here. Dress code: The Brisbane Club has a dress code and guests are encouraged to wear business or business casual, although less formal will be acceptable. Definitely no jeans. Adi Paterson is an uncompromising advocate for nuclear energy. He also demonstrates this is not a party political issue (or at least shouldn’t be) as he comes from the left. He’s also tough and had a history in South Africa as an anti-apartheid activist. But he’s also a very good engineer. Starting off as a research scientist specialising in engineering ceramics, he moved into batteries at one stage, before moving into nuclear. When it comes to electricity he has an understanding of the whole cycle that very few do.
The case for nuclear doesn't just hang on the unreliability of sunbeams and zephyrs, but on the huge problems with storage. If you are determined to run a no-emissions electricity generation system at a cost which allows you to prosper there is only one technical solution that fits the bill.
If you don't believe me, or want to understand this matter even better, this is the function for you. And if you're one of our regulars, it's a good time to catch up with friends, and the food and wine is always good. Hope to see you there. Regards, Graham Young Executive Director
