Making a difference this state election
Dear , This year the AIP is playing a significant role in this state election by running an advertising campaign targeting Labor's abysmal record on cost of living.
It's not a position we have taken lightly, but we have a situation where election funding laws have been rorted to help unions keep the Labor government in power. It makes it mandatory for third parties with a different point of view to step up and run their own election campaigns to counter the weight of money.
Queenslanders are hurting from cost of living pressures, particularly in housing and electricity, and these are all home-grown failures where the AIP has policies that could reverse the process.
We have already released policies to cut the cost in these areas, and we will have a few more during the next three or so weeks.
the ads aren't policies. They're to-the-point and meant to get voters thinking.
The first is the major one, with a woman in the target demographic asking, “What’s up with Labor?” listing a whole lot of prices that have risen, as well as some non-price statistics like ambulance ramping, and concluding “Time’s Up”. The second focuses on electricity prices and is a cartoon featuring two electricity sockets. I first had the idea years ago when Labor was clearly using electricity prices as a way of balancing the budget. My line then was that every power outlet had become an outlet of the Office of State Revenue. Well, the advertising gurus took that insight and turned it into the second series of advertisements. I reckon they’re great. The main game with advertising is to get your idea into peoples’ minds. I’m currently struggling to think what the campaign slogans are for any party in this election. But I think “What’s up with Labor? Time’s up!” given enough repetition could become a sort of earwig that will race through voters’ minds just as they go to put the pencil on the ballot paper. Feel free to share these around with your friends, that will help to get the message out. And if it convinces them to donate to run them even more times, that’s even better.
