Do we need international health organisations, and if so, in what form?
Dear ,
I'm sending this invitation to a select subset of our AIP membership.
Next Friday, June 26 we are hosting a round table with Emeritus Professor Ramesh Thakur of the Crawford School of Public Policy at the ANU, and a former Assistant Secretary-General to the UN and Dr David Bell, a former WHO staff member and former Director of Global Health Technologies at Intellectual Ventures Global Good Fund. Ramesh and David have formed the International Health Reform Project (IHRP), and Ramesh has produced two papers which you can download from https://internationalhealthreformpanel.org/reports. I’ve also attached a memorandum explaining the project. The IHRP seeks to contribute constructively to an important emerging policy discussion: how international health cooperation can be strengthened while restoring public trust, democratic accountability and institutional legitimacy. This is in the context of the amendments to the International Health Regulations under the World Health Organization (WHO), and the WHO Pandemic Agreement, which has been adopted, but subject to an annexe being agreed. The discussion will be limited to a maximum of 14 people apart from the presenters and I wondered whether you would be interested in attending. The roundtable will be held in the boardroom of Red Fox Advisory at Level 15, 324 Queen Street at 12:00 for 12:30. I anticipate the function will be over by 2:00 pm. We will be providing sandwiches and refreshments.
If you would like to come please let me know asap. Kind regards,
GRAHAM YOUNG EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE FOR PROGRESS
