Dear ,

It's just three more days until the launch of Gary John's book Burden of Culture. Former senator, and grand-niece of Neville Bonner, Jo Lindgren will do the honours and Gary conduct a brief tour of the book.

The function is this Thursday at 6:00 for 6:30 pm. Tickets are $25 each, which includes food and drink, with discounts for members and students. Our address is Unit 2B, 50 Logan Road. To book click here.

If you can't attend you can still buy the book. Just click here. If you're attending and want to reserve a book you can do the same and indicate you will pick the book up at the function to save yourself postage.

Gary has been writing about Aboriginal issues for a long time and has had the courage to say things that were not popular, but needed to be said. His books include Waking up to Dreamtime, Recognise What? and Aboriginal Self-Determination.

He was appointed Assistant Minister for Industrial Relations in 1993 under Paul Keating, and then Special Minister for State and Vice-President of the Executive Council in 1994. Gary has worked for a variety of think tanks, universities, and consultancies including the IPA, ACU, ACIL Tasman, and QUT. He gained his PhD from the University of Queensland in 2001, and was also Commissioner for Charities and Not-for-profits between  2017 and 2022.

Joanna Lindgren was a senator for Queensland between 2015 and 2016, losing her position at the 2016 federal election. She is a former high school teacher and army reservist and is an Aboriginal Australian with Jagera and Mununjali ancestry.

.Look forward to seeing you Thursday evening.
