Ron Manners “Impatient Libertarian” reminder and some invitations to other events from our friends

Libertarians, lawyers and classicists

Dear ,

If you’ve already booked for Ron Manners’ launch of The Impatient Libertarian you might want to drop to the next subject heading and start reading.

Otherwise, don’t forget that Ron Manners will be launching his latest book The Impatient Libertarian: Which Road Ahead on Wednesday May 22 at 6:00 for 6:30 pm in the hall at Holy Trinity Anglican Church, the Valley. To book, click here.

Ron is a legend in mining circles (literally - he is the Chairman Emeritus and Patron of the Mining Hall of Fame where he was also inducted as a "living legend") and also in free market economic circles (he’s on the board of the Mont Pelerin Society, founded by Hayek and Friedman, amongst others).

His contribution to both has been enormous, and practical, and what he has to say merits consideration. Tickets range between $20 and $35 dollars, which undersells Ron, and means you are getting the wine and antipasto for less than nothing! Tickets can be purchased here.

Samuel Griffith Society Conference

One of Donald Trump’s successes as president was to cement a majority of judges on the Supreme Court who believed it is up to judges to interpret laws not make them. Without the current Supreme Court things would be more lawless in the US now than they currently are.

It’s indicative of a more activist approach to the law across the board from the Conservative and Classical Liberal side of the debate.

Australia doesn’t have the same array of conservative or liberal legal organisations as the USA, but we do have the Samuel Griffith Society. They are holding their annual conference on the Gold Coast (which I think is a first, so they should be encouraged to do it again by a large attendance).

They’ve made a special offer to AIP members and here it is in their own words.

I'm excited to let you know that The Samuel Griffith Society is offering AIP members an exclusive discount to attend its 2024 Conference on the Gold Coast. Along with other fellow supporters, you will have the opportunity to hear from speakers including Dr Janet AlbrechstenSenator Jacinta Nampijinpa PriceDr Mark Fowler, and Jarrod Bleijie MP.

You can access these exclusive discounts via TryBooking by using the following promo codes:

For bookings for the Full Conference and/or Conference and Accommodation, we invite AIP members to use the discount code AIP2024.

Classical Education Conference

Logos Australis is running a classical education conference in Queensland on Saturday June 1 which will feature Andrew Kern and Katerina Hamilton from the Circe Institute in the US as guest speakers. Classical education is going-off like a bomb in the USA, and I expect we will see it happen here as well. There are two explicitly classical education schools in existence in Brisbane, and at least one more will open in 2026 (St John Henry Newman College, associated with James Power). Many home schoolers also adopt the classical approach, and don’t be surprised if it spreads to already established schools.

They are still offering Early Bird prices, so if you are interested, click here to book. The conference is $85 for general admission and student tickets are available at $50. There is also a conference dinner at the Norman Hotel ($70).

Regards,

GRAHAM YOUNG
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
