Two events about housing affordability

One a function, the other a policy

Dear ,

I’m writing to you at the suggestion of Ross Elliott for two reasons.

I’m sure housing affordability is on your mind as much as on mine these days. Which is why our think tank, the Australian Institute for Progress, has chosen to honour Maha Sinnathamby as our lecturer at the annual McIlwraith Lecture, to be held on October 16 at 7:00 for 7:30 pm at the Victoria Park Golf Course Club House.

Springfield is an amazing achievement, but what is even more daunting is the fact that when we have net migration of 500,000 in a year, we need to produce 5 Springfields to house them all, each and every year. This year we’ve chosen to put the spotlight on one developer and his development as a way of honouring the complexity of development, as well as the courage and ingenuity often required of the developer.

Ross thought you might be interested in attending the function, which is a two-course dinner with drinks included, or that others in your organisation might. If you are interested you can book by clicking here. I’ve also attached a PDF invitation for circulation.

The second reason is to alert you that Ross has completed a paper on housing affordability for us. We will be launching it in the next week or so as solutions to the housing affordability problem should be part of this Queensland election, not just an attack dot-point for either side

I will send you a copy in the next few days. Apart from obvious solutions, like slowing population growth, Ross also proposes some innovative proposals to deal with the problems of funding infrastructure, and the frontloading of taxes onto new dwellings which is one of the key factors suppressing supply and increasing prices.

Regards,

GRAHAM YOUNG
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
