But there is not a lot of time left
Dear , It's not too late to book for our lunch next Monday with Hon Peter O'Neill, former PM of Papua New Guinea, but hurry. (To book click here).
His speech comes at an interesting time with a No Confidence vote against the current government PNG government scheduled to proceed tomorrow. As a prominent member of the Opposition, Mr O'Neill will be in a great position to give us an insight into what is happening in our nearest neighbour.
Hon Peter O'Neill is well-placed to speak on the anniversary of Papua New Guinea Independence Day. With an Irish Australian father and a Papuan New Guinean mother from the southern highlands he shares personal history with both the colonial power and the colony.
His father was an Australian government field officer, who later became a magistrate, and he grew up in his mother's village. He was educated in the Highlands before obtaining a Bachelor of Commerce and Accounting degree from the University of Papua New Guinea.
At 22 O'Neill was already involved in business as a shareholder and director of Trans PNG Services Pty Ltd. He worked briefly for Coopers and Lybrand (since folded into PWC) then established his own accounting practice with friend Maurice Pratley. His business career included a stint as president of the Papua New Guinea Institute of Certified Practicing Accountants, and Executive Director of the PNG Banking Corporation.
Mr O'Neill has been the member for Ialibu-Pangia since 2002 and became the 8th prime minister of Papua New Guinea in 2011. As prime minister O'Neill concentrated on investing in infrastructure, and raising PNG's international status.
