But there is still time to book for “Put another Aussie on the barbie”
Dear ,
And there is definitely still time to book for Emancipation Day with keynote speaker Tony Abbott. The demand for Lars Schernikau’s presentation was phenomenal, so I’m sure there are some of you who were planning to book and have left it too late. Have no fear, next week’s function with Matt Barrie on Thursday at the Precinct, Fortitude Valley, will be stimulating and wide-ranging as well, and from one of Australia’s high achievers. Date is the 18th and it will start at 6:00 for 6:30 pm.
To book click here. The list of Matt’s awards is long. Just a sample includes: - "Most influential person in information technology in Australia" – Smart Money
- "One of the Top 100 Most Influential Engineers in Australia" – Engineers Australia
- "Libertarian of the Year" – Libertarian Society
- "Alumnus of the Year in Entrepreneurship" – Macquarie University
- "Executive of the Year" – APAC Stevie Awards
I’ve even been using his company Freelancer this afternoon to organise graphic design from one of the 70 million freelancers registered there. This is an industry the federal government is trying to shut down under the rubric of abolishing “insecure work”. The people registered with Freelancer probably see this work as freedom and flexibility, and none of Tony Burke’s “bees wax”. I’m with them. And I’m looking forward to hearing Tony Abbott speak at our Emancipation Day breakfast where we will be honouring in particular the contribution to the abolitionist cause of John Newton, the author of Amazing Grace. (That was the reason I was looking for graphic design as we are republishing his treatise Thoughts Upon the African Slave Trade to commemorate the occasion. It will be on sale on the day.) Grace is also something this era would do well to reacquaint itself with. Emancipation Day is August 1, starting at 7:00 for 7:30 am. To book click here. Regards, GRAHAM YOUNG EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR AUSTRALIAN INSTITUTE FOR PROGRESS
