Update on AIP’s new membership arrangements

Dear ,

You have probably been contacted by someone from the Red Union Support Hub asking you for information so they can update your AIP membership.

The contact is legitimate, but I apologise because the approach should have been more professional.

I did not know that anyone would be making contact with our members today, and if I had I would have insisted on seeing the materials they were going to use first.

If I were an AIP member the email that was sent out would have set off alarm bells for me as would the phone call.

What the email should have said was that the AIP has made an arrangement with the Red Union and that they will be handling our membership system for us in the future and that they would be contacting you to update or confirm some details.

We have a close relationship with the Red Union which was set up by one of our directors Graeme Haycroft and his business partner Jack McGuire as a non-political alternative to a number of Labor aligned unions like the Queensland Nurses and Midwives Union, the Queensland Teachers Union, and the AMA.

Each of its unions is supported by the Red Union Support Hub which provides the head office support. This makes it easy for a union to be set up and also gives even the smallest unions access to scale.

Graeme and Jack made the kind offer to handle our membership for us at no charge, so it was an offer that was hard to refuse. We also have ambitions to lift our membership to 1,000 over the next year, and their support will make this possible.

Apologies if you were alarmed by their contact.

Kind regards,

Graham
