Victorian election decided on state issues
Dear Senator ,
Our polling on the Victorian election shows that federal factors did not play a strong part in the result. Only one respondent out of two surveys mentioned Turnbull, and only a handful mentioned federal issues at all.
The result came down to the performance of Premier Daniel Andrews over his term in office, and during the election campaign. He was rewarded for a strong infrastructure campaign to counter population issues and climate change, and for his stance on voluntary euthanasia and safe injecting rooms.
Opposition leader Matthew Guy was punished because respondents thought he didn't stand for anything, and that he was trying to scare them into voting for him on the basis of a law and order campaign that had no basis in reality.
