Thanks so much to those who have contributed
Dear ,
The members and supporters of this institute are incredibly generous for a good cause.
I didn't think when I wrote to all of you yesterday that by tonight I would have received $16,013 in support for our costs with the Electoral Commission of Queensland.
Having said that, we're still $3,987 short. So if you're thinking of contributing, please don't hesitate. You'll help me to sleep easier at night knowing we can fulfil our legal obligations, and it will allow me to spend more time working on our campaigns for this state election.
You can contribute by using your credit card and clicking here, or by depositing to our account with the ANZ Bank: BSB 014 278 Account 1101 03131.
And if you were one of those who have already contributed, thanks for your generosity.
I've spent some time watching TV tonight, and it was depressing. We cannot go on like this.
My parents talked about the Second World War, and the Great Depression, and I think the second actually had more impact on them than the first, which tells you something about how scarring financial catastrophes can be compared to everything else.
But these were things that happened to them, and over which the country had little control. They were extreme exogenous shocks.
The Depression we are having at the moment is mostly a product of pure bad management. Now that we have had time to analyse it the Coronavirus is nothing like the Black Death, and more like a turbocharged flu (I know it's not a flu, it's a virus, but there are plenty of similarities in terms of infection and mortality rates).
This is a small exogenous shock, and we're turning it into a Depression because politicians here, and in many countries around the world, have not been brave enough to level with their constituents and have adopted policies that merely kick the can down the road.
We need adult intervention into policy debate more than at any time I can remember in the past, because in the past, the adults appeared to be running the place.
Our institute needs to survive and prosper to be an adult voice for good policy. Thanks for your support.
Regards,
Graham Young Executive Director
