Slides, photos and an invitation

Thanks for attending the launch of Professor Tim Florin's paper on low carbon electricity generation. And a huge thanks to Tim for undertaking this work.

I thought you would appreciate Tim's slides, which you can download by clicking here. We also had some photos taken by Madonna, one of our attendees, and you can see them on our Facebook page. 

I'd also like to thank Drew Hutton for launching the paper, and it was great to see that he had so many friends in the room, including former Lord Mayor of Brisbane, Sallyanne Atkinson. And also thanks to Lisa Lahey, a partner in HopgoodGanim, who hosted the event for us.

I'd also like to invite you to our Emancipation Day breakfast with John Anderson which will be held Thursday next week at Tattersall's Club. John is an amazing speaker, and brings a wealth of real world experience with him gained as a member of parliament, Deputy Prime Minister, Agriculture and Energy Minister, and Minister for Transport and Regional Development, as well as being a farmer and the director of a number of companies. If you haven't seen any of his podcasts you should. He is one of the best interviewers in Australia and has a YouTube channel - John Anderson Media.. 

Our Emancipation Day breakfasts are part of our drive to develop new secular celebrations of our culture and civilisation. August 1 marks the anniversary of the date when the Abolition of Slavery Act came into effect in Britain in 1834. Each year we have a breakfast as close to the date as possible in acknowledgement of the importance of that event.

The British Empire, of which we are an inheritor, did more than anyone else when it comes to abolishing slavery and establishing the principle that no one has the right to own another human being, no matter who they are or where they live, 

That's got to be something that every Australian can celebrate, even though Australia was never (by design) a slave-owning country. You can book by clicking here, and I'm happy to make the member price of $65 available to everyone who attended this launch, whether or not they are a member.
