Thank you for a very successful function

Wednesday was a great evening. Lars will be in contact separately to thank you, but I wanted to thank you personally myself for being there, give you some links to media appearances Lars has made while in Australia, and also tell you about some of our future functions that I'm sure will interest you.

It was great to meet so many people who are concerned about where our electricity generation system is heading, and I hope you will be repeating some of Lars' strong messages to family, friends and colleagues.

I particularly liked the message that "Energy is life", which is similar to my observation that there is a straight line relationship between energy consumption and civilisation.

• Emancipation Day Breakfast - Tony Abbott, former prime minister of Australia, and a strong champion of the virtues of liberal democracy. Emancipation Day commemorates the date when the Abolition of Slavery Act was passed in the UK parliament and marks one of the first dates when human equality came to be viewed as a universal value.
