Make politicians’ spending more transparent

Senator James McGrath has launched a campaign for Australia to have an online transparency portal, similar to those in the United States and the United Kingdom, to highlight the ‘who’, ‘what’, ‘why’, ‘where’ and ‘how’ of government spending.

The flouting of commonsense standards of legitimate employment entitlements by government members like Senator Bronwyn Bishop, and opposition frontbenchers such as Tony Burke, has seriously damaged the community’s trust in politicians.

It also makes it much harder for politicians to credibly explain to voters why we need to rein in government spending.

We encourage you to have a look at the campaign and consider signing the protest list. And please circulate the URL (www.allgovernmentspendingonline.com) to your friends and colleagues, and even your political antagonists. Everyone has a vested interest in keeping politicians accountable.
