Professor James Allan holds the oldest named chair at the University of Queensland School of Law. Born in Canada, he practiced law at a large Toronto based firm after obtaining his degree from Queen’s University. Professor Allan spent 11 years teaching outside of Australia before relocating here in 2005. He has been published in all the top English language legal philosophy journals in the US, Canada, the UK, and Australia. His writing is also published in newspapers such as The Australian, The Spectator Australia, and Quadrant.

The profit margin on gas is around 23% so in principle it would mean most exporters would go out of business. So why would Greens and Independent senators be so keen on this tax if driving gas producers out of business isn't their intended aim? Especially as their case is based on assertions they must know are wrong.
