Launch of COVID-19 and Australian Federalism – a policy monograph

The Australian federation has gradually been centralised. Originally designed with strong states and a weak federal government it has morphed into a strong federal government with client states.

And then there was COVID-19, and the states started performing more like they were first empowered to do.

What does this natural experiment tell us about federalism? Would the states be better exercising more power, or going back to their old subservient ways?

This monograph by Dr Brendan Markey-Towler examines the data. Brendan is not available, so prominent Brisbane economist Gene Tunny will speak to it. Copies of the monograph are complimentary to those who attend. If you can’t attend but want a copy they can be bought for $10 by clicking here.
